FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE — Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has entered the final countdown for the 2026 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census, deploying over 15,000 digital enumeration officers equipped with satellite-synchronized tablets across all 16 administrative districts.
The digital enumeration architecture guarantees real-time cloud data transmission, biometric verification, and automated spatial GIS boundary mapping, ending historical controversies over paper tally sheets and demographic undercounts.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Kenyeh Barlay highlighted that accurate, verifiable demographic data is indispensable for targeting healthcare facilities, schools, and rural electricity lines under the government's Medium-Term National Development Plan.
International development partners, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the World Bank, commended the rigorous technical verification protocols applied during pilot enumeration runs in Freetown, Bo, and Kenema.
