Seplat Energy Unveils Commercial Discovery of 19 Million Barrels of Oil and 157 Billion Cubic Feet of Gas in Imo State
Seplat Energy has formally notified the upstream petroleum regulator of a major commercial hydrocarbons find in onshore Imo State, accelerating domestic gas-to-power generation targets.
Executive Intelligence Brief
- Sibiri-1 discovery verifies 19.2 million barrels of oil and 157 bcf of natural gas.
- Production tests achieve sustained flow of 5,800 barrels per day.
- Gas volumes dedicated to the ANOH processing facility for 1,200MW power generation.
- Zero-flaring engineering compliance ratified by national upstream regulator.
ABUJA, NIGERIA — Independent energy company Seplat Energy PLC has announced a significant commercial discovery of hydrocarbons following exploration drilling at the Sibiri-1 appraisal well situated in onshore block OML 40 in Imo State.
Preliminary log and reservoir analysis confirmed 19.2 million barrels of gross proved crude oil reserves and 157 billion cubic feet (bcf) of non-associated natural gas across high-permeability sandstone intervals. Well tests recorded sustained clean production flow rates of 5,800 barrels of light crude per day.
Seplat Chief Executive Roger Brown stated that the discovery directly supports Nigeria's 'Decade of Gas' industrialization blueprint, with the newly delineated gas volumes earmarked to feed the ANOH gas processing plant. Once online, the facility will provide critical feedstock for 1,200 megawatts of national grid electricity generation.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) confirmed that Seplat's accelerated development program incorporates zero gas-flaring architecture from inception, aligning with strict environmental and carbon-reduction targets.
