Executive Intelligence Brief

  • Commercial output at Sangomar offshore field achieves 100,000 barrels per day.
  • Twelve crude export shipments dispatched via the FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor.
  • Feedstock guarantees assigned to the SAR domestic refinery in Mbao.
  • Strict zero-flaring and marine environmental standards verified by regulators.

DAKAR, SENEGAL — National oil company Petrosen and Australian operator Woodside Energy have officially announced that the Sangomar deepwater field, situated 100 kilometers south of Dakar, has achieved its planned commercial plateau production rate of 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor) has processed and offloaded twelve crude export cargoes to international refineries in Europe and Asia, generating critical foreign currency receipts for Senegal's sovereign development accounts.

Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines Birame Souleye Diop noted that under statutory production sharing agreements, a dedicated percentage of Sangomar light crude will be piped to the SAR refinery in Mbao, reducing domestic refined fuel import costs by 45%.

The Ministry confirmed that environmental monitoring conducted by independent oceanographic institutes verified zero offshore spills and strict adherence to zero routine gas-flaring standards.
